Let me introduce myself.  My name is John Thorp and I am a chiropractor serving Saranac and the surrounding Mid Michigan area.  I graduated from Lakewood Public School in 1977 and then Alma College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Social Work.  I then spent the next 13 years of my career in the social work profession finshing up at Ionia County Mental Health.  Some also remember me as the owner and operator of CATHARSIS, a massage clinic in Ionia.  I then sold CATHARSIS and moved to Davenport, Iowa to begin my chiropractic education.  I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in October of 1998 after a short residency in the country of Nepal and in Charlotte, Michigan.  I then opened by clinic in Saranac the following weekend and have been here ever since.

Why Saranac?  I prefer the slower pace that the rural life offers.  I never wanted to do the 5 minute adjustments 3 times a week or until the insurance money ran out practice.  The slower rural life provides me with the necessary time to evaluate, diagnose and treat your chiropractic concerns in addition to getting to know my patients.  This is the advantage of being a rural doctor.  It gives me time to enjoy a laugh with friends while I work rather than stress while I work.  Don't be surprised when I answer the phone as I have no secretary.

My appointments are scheduled on the half hour with the exception of the first timers.  First timers need to plan on 1 to 1 1/2 hours to complete the intake paperwork, be evaluated and diagnosed, and then complete the chiropractic treatment protocol and adjustment.  I know this might sound like a long time to some, but I would rather take the time to do a good job.  This practice provides you the opportunity for a chiropractic education and a better outcome.

My chiropractic clinic utilizes the Activator Methods and Thompson Drop Methods treatment protocols.  Please review these specific chiropractic techniques on this website within the "Why Saranac" tab.  Both provide specific treatment protocols on how and when to adjust patients without guess work and x ray films.  Although I do not provide x ray services to my patients, I will gladly refer you to your primary care provider or hospital for these services if warranted.

I am committed to providing chiropractic solutions to address your unique needs, whether you are experiencing back pain, neck pain, headaches, or even muscular tightness and tension. I work with all ages and all conditions provided I think I can help you.  You may be searching for pain relief after an accident, experiencing an injury, or if you suffer from a specific condition like chronic back pain or a spinal condition. Even if you're looking to improve your overall health, a chiropractor might help you attain your everyday wellness goals!   Remember Manual Health Care before Medical Health Care.
